March is “NATIONAL TICK AWARENESS MONTH”

There’s no denying the concern about ticks is growing. People are finding more ticks on their pets — and themselves even in Alberta. Reported cases of Lyme disease are more frequent.

March is the ideal time to reach out to our clients and provide the crucial information and guidance they seek — which is why the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, in partnership with Merck Animal Health, has declared March National Tick Awareness Month.

Ticks begin looking for a blood meal as soon as outdoor temperatures reach 4ºC. This can occur very early in the spring or on warmer days during traditionally cold months — well before clients have even started to think about parasite control. Click here for a great article on “Ticks in Dogs”

We have lots of “Tick Prevention Education” tools at our clinic that have been designed to generate discussion about ticks and the risks they pose, as well as educate our clients, so they can better help them protect their pets, their families and themselves.
